Custom Coffee Table in Reclaimed Ship Wood – no.2

THB 75,000 – SOLD OUT

The reclaimed Merawan slab was sourced from ship restorers along the Thai coastline.  Based on information provided by the craftsmen and the original iron fittings that were attached to the timber its estimated to be from the late 19th century. Some of the oldest wooden structures and ships in Asia were made from this wood. One single plank was cut in half and joined by 5 butterfly keys. The two pieces once linked do not require any additional mechanical reinforcement. Mirror polished solid stainless steel base with a subtle angle evoke a ships hull. A hand rubbed plant-based oil and wax was used to preserve the natural colour and patina. When working with Thai historical timber I do my best to preserve the origins. They are irreplaceable and it would be a shame to erase the past.
