A long-term client (who turn into a dear friend) and expert collector of art and fine furniture approached me 2 years ago to commission a very special cabinet to house part of his art collection.

This has been by far the most intensive and physically demanding piece I have made to this day, on account of zero margin for error. 

I selected some of my finest wood for this piece. The cabinet carcass is made out of a single slab with grain patterns that cascade down each side. I built it with 45 degree angle joints to allow the wood patterns to flow seamlessly on all three sides, and added contrasting dovetails for good measure,

All 8 drawers are made from a single slab of wood… so making a mistake on even one drawer would mean the wood grain patterns would not flow harmoniously. 

The whole piece features a plethora of precious details – contrasting dovetails in rare wood, silicon bronze drawer pulls, dovetail joinery on each drawer, Delrin drawer slides, black walnut drawer bottoms, burl patchworks, solid teak plinths backing, black wood supporting base, and my signature brass stamp .

The whole process took me 14 months. Good thing take time… Great things take a little longer.
